Leila Tea cloth is approximately 13 inches in diameter including lace. For this project you will need to have 15 inches square linen fabric pre washed and pressed. We used yellow colored linen fabric and similar yellow color thread for freestanding lace to complete Leila. Embroider 8 pieces of Leila_01_01 freestanding lace elements.

Once you have embroidered all Leila freestanding lace pieces cut excess stabilizer and connect them together as shown on diagram 1. DO NOT wash off the stabilizer yet! 

Place stitched together freestanding lace designs on your square linen fabric. Attach it with pins or basting stitch and start sewing lace to fabric with straight stitch first. Trim excess fabric from the back and use zigzag stitch all around. For your final pass use satin stitch. Next step is to mark the center of tea cloth and embroider Leila_01_02 (follow color chart instructions). To embroider flower motifs start with Leila_01_03 and finish with Leila_01_06, refer to diagram 2. To help you with placement of flower designs we suggest printing templates so that you can correctly mark center of each design on the cloth. Once you finish embroidery you can wash off stabilizer (usually we soak it in water over night), flat dry and press from the back. Leila is ready for display!

Leila_01_02. 13952 stitches, 82.7 mm x 77.9 mm. Hoop two layers of water-soluble (Vilene) stabilizer. Start embroidery:

  1. Pale yellow
  2. STOP (do not change the thread) Remove hoop, cut out fabric for center lace piece, careful not to cut the stabilizer. Continue embroidery

Leila_01_03. 2276 stitches, 87.8 mm x 86.7 mm. Hoop one layer of tear away stabilizer (we use watersoluble stabilizer Vilene). Start embroidery:

  1. Light green
  2. Green
  3. Light blue
  4. Yellow

Leila_01_04. 4244 stitches, 99.8 mm x 90.3 mm. Hoop one layer of tear away stabilizer (we use watersoluble stabilizer Vilene). Start embroidery.

  1. White

  5. Light pink
  6. Light blue
  7. Light lavender
  8. Yellow

Leila_01_05. 3579 stitches, 94.4 mm x 97.5 mm. Hoop one layer of tear away stabilizer (we use watersoluble stabilizer Vilene). Start embroidery:

  7. Yellow

Leila_01_06. 1203 stitches, 47.7 mm x 54.4 mm. Hoop one layer of tear away stabilizer (we use watersoluble stabilizer Vilene). Start embroidery:

  4. Light orange
